Welcome to the world of immigration evaluations

No matter how many years you’ve been in clinical practice, immigration evaluation work raises new questions. It differs from the clinical interventions you may already have mastered. A single coaching session, or a series, can help you feel knowledgeable and confident about how to approach it.

What coaching covers

Pick the topics you need most, or work through all of them.

Understanding the work

  • Your responsibilities as an immigration clinical evaluator
  • The most relevant immigration terminology
  • The main types of immigration cases you’ll work with
  • The immigration system’s procedures and expectations

Conducting evaluations

  • How to organize an evaluation session
  • Informed consent templates
  • Evaluation templates
  • The most commonly used screening tools to support your evaluations

Ethics and boundaries

  • How this evaluator relationship differs from a therapeutic one, including boundaries and ethical practice
  • Working with a new and unique population, and adapting clinical expectations that don’t apply to this work

Building your practice

  • Marketing approaches
  • Setting your fee schedule with confidence
  • Balancing pro bono and fee-for-service work

The goal: feeling equipped to hit the GO button.

What coaching is not

So you know exactly what to expect, here’s what falls outside the scope of these sessions.

  • A subscription to a referral source
  • Legal advice
  • Clinical supervision
  • A guarantee that USCIS will approve your evaluations
  • Your coach building your templates for you during a session
  • A promise to cover every topic in one session
